ACOG's New Guidance Highlights the Value of Doula–Provider Partnerships
In July 2026, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) released new guidance encouraging obstetric providers to build stronger, collaborative relationships with doulas as part of person-centered maternity care. The guidance recognizes that when healthcare teams and doulas work together with clear communication and mutual respect, families benefit from more coordinated, supportive care.
At Nativity & Grace Health Wellness LLC, this collaborative approach reflects our mission every day. As a birth doula, my role is not to provide medical care or replace healthcare professionals. Instead, I provide non-clinical emotional support, evidence-based education, physical comfort measures, and continuous encouragement throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period. My goal is to help families feel informed, confident, and supported while honoring the expertise of their medical team.
Why Collaboration Matters
When doulas and healthcare providers work together, mothers can experience:
Better communication and shared decision-making
Greater understanding of their birth preferences
Increased confidence throughout pregnancy and labor
Continuous emotional and physical support
Improved coordination between the family and healthcare team
ACOG's guidance emphasizes that respectful collaboration allows each member of the care team to contribute within their scope of practice, creating a more positive birth experience for patients and families.
Our Commitment
At Nativity & Grace Health Wellness LLC, we are committed to building strong partnerships with Family Nurse Practitioners, OB-GYNs, certified nurse-midwives, nurses, hospitals, and community organizations.
